Loved, loved this one!! I've never heard you talk of your dad in this way before...I didnt know Jon was so much like him--I could have inserted Jon's name in any part of that. Isnt it so strange how certain smells, sounds etc can throw you back in time in an instant? I guess I'll be fighting you for a seat by Jon our next church visit ;)

Dear Marla in the Kitchen,

Got your plaintive note yesterday. It all sounds great to me except the part about Bob's absence for a while. I never thought of categorizing my food but it wouldn't take very long; granulated garlic, toasted tortillas, home made salsa, broccoli, carrots, Progresso soup, homemade TV dinners, chocolate chips for a meal and popcorn. What a great idea though. I'd welcome you for a meal anytime you would like to show up on my doorstep but you might want to bring your favorites, or call ahead.

The time will go by fast (probably). All kidding aside, Ginny and I want to come over more often and visit with you. We could go more places because you wouldn't need to home so soon.

Call me sometime.

Nikki

A few "memory tears" for this one! I'll run across that poem one of these days. I do remember another angry moment from Daddy as I announced that my first date ever (age 16) would be with a Winnebago Indian from the nearby rez. Needless to say, I didn't date for a little while longer!

I love Dominique Browning! I have several of essays ripped from H & G's spine in my "too good to throw away" file. The "boys leaving home" was espcially memorable. I'll be sure to look up her blog.

Wow, did you bring back memories with this article, kid! Particularly enjoyed reading about your parents.

In 2006, I got a phone call from KCAU TV wanting to do piece about that Elvis show in '56; it was the 50th anniversary. Carole Manley, Carol Schuldt, a guy from Central who was there, and I all went down to the auditorium and reminisced. Carole, Carol, DelRae and I went to Graceland for our 60th birthdays (a few years back), including trip to Tupelo.

Isn't that the truth! Green beans, $3.99/lb, tomatoes, $5.99/lb. at the Metropolitan. Tacoma Boys has good bargains--root vegetables, $.99 lb., red peppers, $.99 lb., Honey Crisp apples, $.99 lb. Why the vast difference?
